Founded in 1872 and currently located in Tallapoosa County, Alexander City or Alex City as known by the locals, is famous for the lake that it's housing, Lake Martin, the largest in the state.

Being the star of the area, Lake Martin is also a touristic spot on the map of Alexander City and also on Alabama's map. So, besides the locals who enjoy it all year long, there are also many tourists heading to Alexander City for Lake Martin. When it comes to activities and things to do at Lake Martin in Alexander City, you can choose between moonlight cruises, waterskiing adventures, the fireworks pontoon ride on the 4th of July or just romantic dining or shopping. The Lake Martin Amphitheater is hosting music, art, cultural and entertainment events and it is located south of the lake on Highway 63, overlooking the beautiful lake. The venue hosts Lake Martin's biggest musical event, Alex City's Jazz Fest.

Inside Alexander City there are several parks and recreational areas and National Military Park is one of the largest, it occupies 2,040 acres and it is dedicated to the memory of U.S. Soldiers and Creek Nation Indians who died in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend on March 27, 1814.

Children's Harbor is another venue worth visiting close to Alexander City. At about 15 miles south of Alexander City, the campus is located near a New England seaside village and it features also the Plymouth Lighthouse and a charming little early American church, Children's Chapel.
