Public Transportation

 

The public bus service, in Wilmington, is offered by Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority, which also goes by the name of WAVE Transit, operating 8 local bus routes, throughout the city, including through New Hanover County, most of the routes operating every 30-minutes on weekdays.

 

The city also operates a downtown free trolley which runs every 10 minutes, on weekdays, also providing service to several towns located west of Cape Fear River, such as Belville, Lake Waccamaw and Whiteville. The fares for the trips across the river are more expensive, but the regular fare for a one-way trip is $1.

 

Major Highways and Roads

 

I-40 – has its eastern terminus in Wilmington.

I-140 - its termini are at the I-40 interchange, in Murraysville and U.S. Highway 421 (US 421), in Wilmington.

US Route 17 – runs from North Carolina border to the Wilmington area, afterwards, turning west and north into Jacksonville.

Turn right at New Centre Drive. UNCW will be on the right.
