The Museum of Geological Sciences, which can be found on Virginia Tech's campus, featuring an impressive collection of more than 13,000 minerals used for research, education, and display, most of which are from Virginia, including specimens from famous mining localities worldwide, the museum's exhibits including gems, minerals, and a full-scale model of an Allosaurus dinosaur skeleton found in Utah.

The Perspective Gallery, which can also be found on Virginia Tech's campus, on the second floor of Squires Student Center, featuring exhibits which include metal sculptures, drawings, alchemical narratives paintings, art works with exclusively female themes, and much, much more.

Cascades National Recreation Trail, a 4-mile round trip trail, along a shaded mountain creek to a 70 foot waterfall within the Jefferson National Forest. Hiking opportunities are available, at the moderate difficulty level, as well as trout fishing and picnicking areas, which are available at the beginning of the trail.

Annual Events

Steppin' Out is Blacksburg's premier annual event. It is a downtown annual street festival, which features merchant sidewalk sales, handcrafted items, great festival food, and three stages for musical performances, offering entertainment for all ages, and for both visitors and residents.

The festival takes place on the first Friday and Saturday in August and brings over 150 artists and crafts people from around the United States to downtown Blacksburg, offering visitors unique handcrafted items, including jewelry, pottery, textiles, metal work, basketry, stained & fused glass, artisan foods and much, much more.
