There are 3 major airports that are close to St. Louis: Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, located in suburban northwest St. Louis County, MidAmerica St. Louis Airport, situated 25 miles east of the city, in Illinois, adjacent to Scott Air Force Base, and St. Louis Downtown Airport, which can be found across the Mississippi River from Downtown St. Louis.

The city has a metropolitan public transit network which includes inner city and regional buses, rail, and taxi services. RTA (Regional Trasit Authority) offers public bus service in St. Louis City, as well as in the entire area of St. Louis County, MO and St. Clair County in Illinois. The greyhound Bus Lines also serve the city, offering travelers national routes fro St. Louis.

 

Major Roads & Highways

 

I-70 – passes through Columbia, which is the largest city between Kansas City and St. Louis.

I-55 - runs from the southeastern part of the state, at the Arkansas border, to St. Louis, crossing the Mississippi River into Illinois.

I-44 - enters Missouri southwest of Joplin at a point near the corner of Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas, continuing into the suburbs of St. Louis, ending near the Mississippi River at the intersection with I-55.

I-64 - the southern-most portion of the Avenue of the Saints. The portion of Interstate 64 in St. Louis has been named the Jack Buck Memorial Highway, in honor of the late sportscaster.

I-255 - a bypass route of Interstate 55 near St. Louis, MO. Along with I-270 forms a loop around the city.

I-170 – travels north–south through several of St. Louis’ suburbs, including Hazelwood, Berkeley, St. John, Charlack, and Vinita Park, ending just north of the city of Brentwood.

I-270 - makes up a large portion of the outer belt freeway in the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area.

From Lambert-St. Louis International Airport: Start by heading northwest on Airport Access Road, toward Air Cargo Rd/Natural Bridge Rd/E Terminal. Turn left at Natural Bridge Road and continue onto Air Cargo Rd/Garage Parking/E Terminal. Take the ramp to I-70 E/St Louis and merge onto I-70 E. Take exit 238B, to merge onto I-170 S, toward Clayton and take exit 1, on the left for I-64 W/US-40 W, toward Wentzville/St Louis. Take exit 1A, on the left, to merge onto I-64 E/US-40 E and exit 37B for Grand Blvd. Turn left at S Grand Blvd. SLU will be on the right.

 

From MidAmerica St. Louis Airport: Start by heading southeast on Air Terminal Dr. Make a slight right to stay on Air Terminal Dr., and turn right at Airport Blvd. Turn left at IL-4 N and then turn left, again, to merge onto I-64 W. Enter Missouri and take exit 40C to merge onto I-44 W/I-55 S. Take exit 288 for Louisiana Avenue, toward Grand Blvd., and make a slight left at Lafayette Avenue. Take the 1st left onto S Grand Blvd. SLU will be on the right.

 

From St. Louis Downtown Airport: Start by heading northeast on Mark Allen Dr., and turn left to stay on Mark Allen Dr. Continue onto Curtis Steinberg Dr., and turn left at Falling Springs Road. Take the 2nd right onto Judith Lane and then take the 1st right onto IL-3 N/Mississippi Avenue. Merge onto I-55 S/I-64 W/I-70 W, via the ramp to St Louis, and enter Missouri. Take exit 40C, to merge onto I-44 W/I-55 S and continue to follow I-44 W. Take exit 288 for Louisiana Avenue, toward Grand Blvd, and make a slight left at Lafayette Avenue. Take the 1st left onto S Grand Blvd. SLU will be on the right.
