Public Transportation

 

The public transportation service, in South Bend, is provided by Transpo, which operates bus routes between South Bend and Mishawaka and Roseland suburbs, from Monday through Saturday. There is also a bus line which connects Notre Dame and Chicago O'Hare and Midway Airports, with several northwest Indiana stops.

 

The intercity transportation service is offered by Amtrak, which provides service to South Bend, with 2 trains: the Lake Shore Limited to New York, Boston and Chicago, and the Capitol Limited to Washington DC and Chicago.

 

Major Highways and Roads

 

South Bend is connected to national and state highway systems by US 20, US 31, Indiana 2, 23, 933, I 80, I 90 and the Indiana Toll Road, routes of the Dixie Highway and the Lincoln Highway also passing through the city. The St. Joseph Valley Parkway, which is used for transportation around the South Bend metro area, connects South Bend, Benton Harbor, MI, Elkhart and Mishawaka. Its segments are designated as US 31, US 20 and Indiana 331, but are locally referred to as `the bypass`.

From the North: Exit I-80/90 at Exit 77, and turn right onto Indiana 933. At the 4th stop light (Angela Boulevard), make a left, and at the 2nd stop light (Eddy Street) make another left. Follow the signs to visitor parking.

 

From the South: Start by taking US 31 north, which becomes Indiana 933, just south of South Bend. Continue following Indiana 933, through downtown South Bend, heading to Angela Boulevard. Make a right turn onto Angela Boulevard, and at the 2nd stop light (Eddy Street), turn left. Follow the signs to visitor parking.
