In Louisville, the public transportation mainly consists of buses, operated by Transit Authority of River City (TARC), which run in the entire downtown Louisville area and throughout Jefferson County, also serving Kentucky suburbs such as Bullitt County, Oldham County, including Indiana Suburbs such as New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville.

 

The rail service is provided by 2 major freight railroads: CSX (southern part of the metro area) and Norfolk Southern, with 5 major rail lines that connect the city with the rest of the region. I-264 and I-265 are the 2 inner and outer interstate beltways in Louisville. The interstates that pass through the city are I-64 and I-65, I-71 also having its southern terminus in the city. Due to the fact that the 3 highways intersect (virtually) in the same spot, on the east side of downtown Louisville, this location has been locally nicknamed `Spaghetti Junction`. There are 2 bridges which take I-64 and I-65 over the Ohio River, the city having a 3rd bridge, which carries non-interstate traffic.
