Sports & outdoor events

The Annual Brookings Marathon, scheduled on May 15, in 2010, is perhaps one of the most popular annual sporting events in Brookings.

 

The event consists of a full-marathon, a half-marathon, a relay and the Scotty Roberts 5k, which was named after a local running icon, with the 1st 3 runs reminded starting at Pioneer Park.

 

All proceeds from the event go to Boys and Girls Club of Brookings. Last year, nearly $10 000 was raised, and in the past years, over $100 000 was donated for various causes thanks to the runners, who participate in an impressive large number, every year.

 

Festivals

The Brookings Summer Arts Festival, celebrated in July, represents the premier juried art festival in South Dakota. This popular annual Brookings event attracts hundreds of artists, every year, representing 17 disciplines of art, at the beautiful Pioneer Park.

 

The festival also features antique and historic booths, which celebrate South Dakota's heritage, play areas for children, numerous fun, educational activities for the entire family and plenty, delicious festival-like treats.
