Among Orangeburg's ''must see'' attractions, there are:

I.P. Stanback Museum/Planetarium, located on the campus of South Carolina State University, named for the first African-American chairman of the University's Board of Trustees, Isreal Pinkney Stanback, featuring one of the largest exhibit areas in the state, including a forty-foot planetarium dome, located across the foyer adjacent to the galleries, the facility offering visitors various types of eye-catching presentations.

Edisto Memorial Gardens, which comemorate the site where 600 Confederate soldiers temporarily held off the Union Army in 1865.

Annual Events

The Festival of Roses, which has been a local tradition for nearly 40 years now, is, perhaps, Orangeburg's premier annual event. Every year, from April through May, the people of Orangeburg celebrate the blooming of the beautiful roses and the beginning of a yearlong opportunity to enjoy the natural setting of the Edisto Memorial Gardens, along the banks of the Edisto River, the longest black water river in the world.

During the festival, there are races happening, as well as displays of arts and crafts and food vendors, including special entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages. If you missed this year's event, be sure not to miss it next year, if visiting Orangeburg, because it is considered ''a must'' for every Orangeburg visitor!
