Getting around in Brooklyn, NY

Brooklyn is served by 18 subway lines, most of which serve as direct connections to Queens or Manhattan. The borough is also served by an extensive network of MTA buses, most useful being, perhaps, the B51 bus, which runs between City Hall in Manhattan and Smith St./Fulton St. in Downtown Brooklyn, via the Manhattan Bridge.

There is also the option of taking the Long Island Railroad, if your starting and ending points are in the follwing neighborhoods: Downtown Brooklyn, near Atlantic Avenue/Flatbush Avenue, Bedford-Stuyvesant, near Atlantic Avenue/Nostrand Avenue, and East New York, near Atlantic Avenue/Van Sinderen Avenue. The service is not exactly convenient, because there are limited stops and it is relatively infrequent, but if you need to go exactly to the area where it stops, its much faster than the subway.

New York's famous yellow cabs also provide transportation in Brooklyn, although, there are less numerous in the borough.

From John F. Kennedy International Airport: Head north and make a slight right toward Van Wyck Expy. Take the ramp onto Van Wyck Expy and continue onto I-678 N. Take the exit toward Belt Pkwy W/Verrazano Bridge and merge onto N Conduit Ave/New York 878 (West). Make a slight left at Linden Blvd and keep left at the fork. Turn right at Bedford Avenue. Medgar Evers College will be on the left.
