Sports & outdoor events

Every year, in June, the Run Charlevoix Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 K and 5K takes place in Charlevoix, as the name of the event suggest, which is located at a distance of approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes, from Ypsilanti, by car.

 

This annual sporting event is considered to be one of the most popular runs in the state of Michigan, featuring breezy, shaded trails, scenic pathways and roads, including some of Lake Michigan's most breathtaking scenery.

 

The out-and-back course of the race starts and finishes in downtown Charlevoix, and takes hundreds of enthusiastic runners, annually, through some of the most beautiful areas in the city, giving them the chance to also do some sightseeing, along the way.

 

The Run Charlevoix Marathon is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, and all the runs included in the event are certified and insured by USATF.

 

Festivals

The premier annual celebration in Ypsilanti is considered to be the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, which is a fabulous fun-filled event that takes place in August. One of the best things about the festival is that it is free and anyone can choose to participate.

 

The Ypsilanti Heritage Festival offers visitors 3 days of entertaining activities, for the enjoyment of people of all ages, including historic tours, arts and crafts, entertaining stage performances, parades, contests, delicious cooking, and much, much more.

Ypsilanti’s downtown area consist of 2 different districts, known as `downtown` and `depot town`, which are only minutes apart.
