Albany Institute-History & Art, home to several beautiful permanent art collections which include 18th and 19th century paintings and sculpture, ancient Egyptian art items, and more.

USS Slater, used during the World War II, open to the public from April through November with hour-long guided tours and youth group overnight camping. The retired naval ship has become one of the most appreciated and popular attractions in Albany, and it is considered a must for all Albany visitors.

New York State Museum, which offers approximately 12 new exhibitions each year on a wide range of subjects. Researchers throughout the world use the collections of the New York State Museum to address questions about New York's natural and human heritage.

Howe Caverns, a wonder of nature, featuring unique stone formations, formed in much the same way as stalactites and stalagmites, except the water flows down the cavern walls. This wonderful rock formation resembles sheets of frozen, rippling ice. These unique stone formations grow at an unbelievably slow rate: only about one cubic inch (about the size of a small ring box) will form in 100 years.

Annual Events

The Latin Festival is considered to be one of Albany's most expected annual events. This full day, fun-filled family event is a celebration of the contributions of Hispanics to the cultural arts mosaic of American life, and features only the best Latin music, food, crafters and children's entertainment. The Latin Festival takes place at Washington Park, in August.
