>> Chadron State Park, where you can enjoy a swimming pool, horseback trail rides, tennis and sand volleyball courts, craft center, snack bar, souvenirs, mountain bike rentals, paddle boats on the picturesque lagoon, fishing, hiking, evening programs, picnic tables, shelters (which can be reserved), water, dump station, showers and modern restrooms.

>> Mari Sandoz Heritage Center, which celebrates the life and literature of Mari Sandoz and the culture of the High Plains through the acquisition, preservation, display, and interpretation of archival materials, records, documents, books, specimens, and artifacts of this region.The Center features exhibit galleries, a preservation/ preparation workroom equipped with a digital imaging laboratory, and an archival library.

>> Pine Ridge National Recreation Area, 20 miles southwest of Chadron, accessible on county and forest service roads from US 20, a good choice for riders who wish to experience the quiet and solitude that this whole region once offered. Traversing this area is the Pine Ridge Trail, which, including the Roberts Trailhead spur, provides almost 20 miles of moderate to difficult semi-wilderness riding.

Annual Events

Every year, in July, Chadron celebrates Fur Trade Days, which is a celebration that honors the city's origins as a fur and hide trading post for French and other settlers in the Great Plains during the 1800s.

It is the largest event of its kind in the country and attracts thousands of visitors, annually. In 2011, the Fur Trade Days is scheduled on July 8-10, and promises to be as eventful and as appealing as ever.
