- Show your kids a good time, during your stay in Houston, by taking them to the Children's Museum of Houston, on Binz, which is a great place where they can learn and experience new things through interactive play. They can learn about science, geography, arts, technology, culture and history.

 

- Explore the Houston Museum of Natural Science located on Herman Circle Drive, featuring a wide range of interesting exhibits such as the 3-leved live butterfly exhibit or the Challenger Learning Center. Sports & outdoor events

The Annual Chevron Houston Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K, which takes place every January, is perhaps one of the most popular annual sporting events in Houston.

 

Due to the fact that it is a very popular event, attracting a larger number of participants, every year, the organizers have set a registration limit of 22 000 runners, and when the limit is reached (usually happening in October), the registration is closed.

 

The 42-km marathon, the 21-km half marathon and the 5k run, around the city of Houston, are great warm-up runs for those who are trying to break their limit for the Boston Marathon.

 

Besides the personal accomplishment of finishing a marathon while being cheered by hundreds of thousands of people, jazz bands, belly dancers and Elvis impersonators, the runners have the chance to make a difference, by entering the Run for a Reason program, through which they can make donations or become active fundraisers for more than 35 official charities, such as the Texas Children's Hospital, the AIDS Foundation Houston and the American Red Cross.

 

Festivals

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo which happens in late February, spreading through March, represents the biggest annual event in Houston, featuring 3 weeks filled with tons of fun and entertaining activities such as traditional rodeo competitions, national and international superstar musical performances, offered every night, for excited and music-loving crowds, including the World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, in which hundreds of grill masters, drawn from all over the nation, use their unique culinary skills to win the 3 categories: brisket, chicken and pork spare ribs.

 

This fun family-event also features a world-class carnival, petting zoos for the little ones and plenty of music entertainment for all Western enthusiasts.

 

Nightlife

One of the things that make Houston such a great city is the large variety of great local bars, which reflect the city's varied personality.

 

While some people say that the nightlife scene of Houston seems to oscillate around country music, some would disagree, saying that the city has developed quite a "wild" nightlife scene, over the past few years, offering party-loving visitors everything from Vegas-styled upscale clubs to underground-like New York nightclubs.
