The Vulcan Park and Museum is a good starting point for sightseeing in Birmingham. It is located at the top of Red Mountain, offering great views of the city, and it has the largest iron statue in the world.

Sports & outdoor events

The UAB Blazers are representing the athletics team of University of Alabama at Birmingham. They started playing in 1978, as a men basketball team. The team had very good coaches, setting high standards from the beginning, from which head coach Gene Bartow is one of them.

 

Tourists can choose from numerous outdoor activities in Birmingham. The city is known for its beautiful golf courses. Every year in April, a golf tournament is held at the Greystone Country Club. Birmingham's Oxmoor Valley Golf Course has become a major attraction for tourists.

Birmingham holds The Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival every year, in September.

Nightlife

Considered the most original and glamorous nightspot, Oceana is an entertainment venue, that costs millions of pounds, having seven themed rooms and VIP suites. Visitors can also see here an authentically recreated New York Disco.

 

Club South is a popular student bar, right next to the UAB campus. The students come here to have fun and beer, and it is considered that the best time to come here is on a Friday night.
