Sports & outdoor events

 

The annual sport-related events that are taking place in Washington D.C. include the National Marathon, The NHL Ice Hockey: Washington Capitals and the NBA Washington Wizards, bringing excitement to the city every time these events happen.

 

The Annual National Marathon, happening in March and taking place at the RFK Stadium is a popular event, featuring a 5-hour marathon and a half-marathon of 2 hours and 30 minutes, dedicated for those who are not able to finish the full 26.2-mile race. A number of about 5000 runners participate at the race every year, and due to the fact that it is a free event, thousands of spectators are attracted by the Marathon, as well.

 

The regular season of the Washington Capitals is between October and April. The team has their Annual NHL Ice Hockey competition, considered to be another popular event held every year in Washington, housed at the Verizon Center, attracting a large number of hockey fans who come here to assist at their games.

 

The NBA Washington Wizards represents another favorite local team that brings excitement and joy to basketball fans every time they play in their NBA basketball games, also kept at the Verizon Center, their regular season running from October to April, just like the Washington Capitals ice hockey team.

 

 

Festivals

 

There are a large number of fun festivals and celebrations taking place in various venues across Washington, D.C., every year, including The Chinese New Year Parade, St. Patrick's Day Parade, the Smithsonian Kite Festival, and many other fabulous, fun, family events, filled with entertaining activities and interesting highlights.

 

Every February, the people in Washington D.C. celebrate The Chinese New Year Parade, a spectacular family event, featuring musicians, drummers, dragon dancers and lions, numerous entertaining activities and hundreds of firecrackers, celebrating the Chinese community in the city, being organized by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA).
